Truth Is Thursday: Empty Words, Scum, and An Odd Crush

Truth Is: I've been getting quality sleep...yay...just not enough...boo.

Truth Is: I know I didn't get to mention this earlier, but my Mavs are back in the playoffs! Whoop!

Truth Is: Dear Sorta Friend, if you truly want a forever kind of love, as you claim, then you are going to have to learn to keep your word.  Women cannot possibly fully trust you if you maintain the practice of empty words.  I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to see, and why you insist on blaming the women for not handing over the keys to their heart.  Trust is earned.  Empty words?  So not the way to earn it. I should know, since you pulled that act on me a time or two.

Truth Is:  Dale Jr. finished 7th this past Sunday. So loving the consistently good finishes.

Truth Is:  Have y'all heard about the website that encourages married people to cheat on their spouses?  Scummy.  Yeah, well, now it's apparently offering $1 million to any woman who can prove she has had sex with Tim Tebow.  Double scummy.  As you may know, Tim has stated he is waiting until marriage to have sex.

Why do this?  I mean, he is who he is.  Let him be.  Let him live HIS life the way HE sees fit.  Perhaps some people on the opposite end of the moral spectrum--like those who encourage infidelity--feel threatened by people like Tim Tebow. And why?  He's not bothering them. He made a choice--we ALL make choices that are best for us, for our lives, and no one, not a single person on this planet, has the right to make you feel bad about it. 

Truth Is: So, my mom wants a Kindle with--are you ready?--"Wee Fee" capability.  Wee Fee instead of Wi-Fi (why, fye--rhymes with eye).  lol

Truth Is: I have some unusual crushes.  My latest one? Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami.  *blushes*  He's just so manly man-man, totally protective, with a great voice, and super one-liners.  Of course, I totally wouldn't turn away Eric Delko from CSI: Miami, either. ;)

Truth Is Thursday--Sinuses Suck

Truth Is: I know I haven’t been blogging much this week.  I’ve been fighting a ferocious sinus infection.  We’re talking the ice bag on face, Anbesol on gums, Advil every chance you get kind of thing. Honestly, I haven’t had one this bad in a long, long time. 

                                                                                                    

Truth Is: If someone cancels a date due to a sinus infection, please know it’s actually in your best interest.  Please don’t respond with the following: “Really?  You’re bailing over a sinus flare up?  If you don’t want to go out with me, just tell me.” 

Here’s the thing:  Unless you would like your date carrying a drippy ice bag, downing Advil, snotting, drooling from a numb mouth thanks to copious amounts of Anbesol, and likely face-planting in her food, be happy about a cancellation.

Truth Is: I’m really looking forward to seeing The Hunger Games, but I would love for people to stop saying it’s the next Harry Potter. No, it isn’t. They’re two completely different stories set in two totally different worlds. Besides, Harry Potter stands alone. 

Truth Is: Tim Tebow is now a Jet, not Bennie (B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets…sorry.  Great song, though).

I’ve heard people say that Tim “needs to change to fit the NFL.  He needs to act more like a football player.” These folks aren’t talking about his game; they’re talking about him as a person.  Ooh, it really boils my blood!

Change to fit in? Well, bah on them!  I say dare to be different.  No one should ever, ever, ever make you feel like you have to fit some absurd standard “they” deem appropriate.

Tim Tebow is a true role model, and if people don’t like it, then maybe that reveals a little something about their true selves. I hope more than anything Tim has the chance to shine in New York. 

Truth Is: My dad is hilarious.  He brought out his fan and there were two big “X’s” drawn in Sharpie marker over two of the buttons.

Me: “Um, Dad?  Why are there two big X’s on your fan?”

Dad: “Because they remind me those two buttons are evil.”

Me: “Evil?”

Dad: “Yeah, well, they screw up my settings, make the thing go WHOOOOOSH, and then it just stops.  Thought it was broken a time or two.  And you know I always end up pushing one of those two stupid buttons.  Not anymore,” he said grinning like the Cheshire Cat.

Classic.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin Update: Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber; Selena Gets Death Threats

Well, it's been all the news this week: Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber getting cozy on a yacht. Now, the Disney darling is receiving--are you ready for this?--death threats from some Bieber fans! Tweets of "I hate you" and "I'll kill you," were left on Selena's twitter page.

Speaking, writing, let alone thinking, such hateful thoughts is unfathomable. I was a teenager once--I get the whole celebrity crush thing; we've all had them in some form or fashion. But never, in any way, shape, or form, did spiteful, hateful thoughts enter the vicinity of my thought process.

Now, I only looked at a couple of photos and, gotta say, something doesn't quite look right to me. Maybe it's the posing. Bottom line: if they are a couple, let them be...think of them how you would like others to think of you. It always comes back to that Golden Rule, doesn't it?

Now, on a totally different note, I have to acknowledge the change in celebrity hotness. When my friends and I were in our teens, we had a very different hotness quotient from today's teens. Justin is a cutie-pie, don't get me wrong Bieber-fans, but he's not someone I (or my friends) would have swooned over as a teen, and that's simply a result of changing times. Interesting how things change, isn't it?

Friday's Celebrity Former Frisky Virgin: Adriana Lima

Victoria's Secret bombshell, Adriana Lima, shocked all when in 2006 she revealed to GQ magazine that she was saving herself for marriage. "Sex is for after marriage," she stated. "They have to respect that this is my choice, if there's no respect that means they don't want me." (GQ magazine, 2006).


Adriana, now 29, is no stranger to dating celebrity men, but there was one man who waited: Serbian basketball star Marko Jaric, 32.  The two began dating in 2007, and on Valentine's Day 2009, they were married.

Anytime I start feeling a little in over my head, my mom likes to point to Adriana, to which my response is always the same: "Yeah, but, mom, she's a supermodel. Totally different." Still, it is nice to know there are men that will wait...for supermodels...er...positive thinking time, positive thinking time.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Susan Boyle

People tease this woman mercilessly, which is so sad, especially considering she seems to be a truly, genuinely good human being--something people seem to take for granted these days. Oh, and did I mention she can sing like an angel? Susan, 49, has stated she is still a virgin. I don't know if she is looking for love or if she is content living just as she is, but whatever she wishes, I hope everything comes true for her.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Tim Tebow

People love to make fun of virgins.  As I've said, it's a tough road to take.  But maybe those who do the teasing should take a long look at Tim Tebow, a quarterback for the Denver Broncos. 

Here is only a sampling of what Tim Tebow has accomplished at the tender age of 23:

1.  The first college football player to rush and pass for 20+ touchdowns in a single season

2.  First Sophomore to win the coveted Heisman Trophy (2007)

3.  Two-time BCS National Champion (Florida Gators, 2007, 2009)

4.  Manning Award (2008)

5.  Two-time first team All American (2007, 2008)

6.  Three-time first team All SEC (2007, 2008, 2009)

8.  NCAA QB of the Year (2007)

People do tease him--I've heard it and read it.  Undoubtedly, people will continue to tease him.  Let them, for no amount of teasing can ever take away all he has accomplished; they can never take away his faith. 

This multi-talented young man has stated he is a virgin and intends to save himself for his wedding night. Being a quarterback in the NFL will bring many, many challenges, on and off the field. Stay strong, Tim, stay strong--you are the very definition of a role model.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Dakota Fanning

At the tender age of 16, virginity should be a given, but if you watch t.v. and read the news, it's clearly anything but a given these days.

Dakota Fanning, 16,  has stated that though she does not intend to wait until marriage, she has promised her mother she will stay away from sex until she is at least 18.  Hopefully she will be patient and find a young man who is worthy of her heart.  

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin--Miley Cyrus

Oh, I know this week's celebrity frisky virgin is going to cause some uproar. Miley Cyrus, 17, hasn't exactly made the best decisions (re: suggestive photos, making videos mocking Selena Gomez, etc.), but she has stated that she intends to live her life pure, and save herself for marriage. Whether she will continue down this road or veer off onto Britney Spears Avenue is yet to be determined.

It's a tough enough road to walk in today's world, but add to it the spotlight of fame and the road becomes that much tougher.  Many best wishes to her as she continues on this journey--it's a tough one, but a fulfilling one as well.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: The Jonas Brothers

Here's a novel idea: guys vowing to remain virgins until their wedding night! Joe (age 20, soon to be 21) and Nick (age 17) wear purity rings, signifying their promise to remain pure until married.  Kevin Jonas, 22,  married in December of 2009.

In an interview with US Magazine, Joe stated that the purity rings symbolize "a promise to ourselves and to God that we'll stay pure till marriage." Nick added that this is "...just one of our ways of kind of like being different than everybody else out there."
It's nice to see young men making the decision to wait for love for a change.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Jordin Sparks

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, 20, has vowed to remain a virgin until marriage. The lovely songbird wears a purity ring given to her by her mother and father, former NFL defensive back Phillippi Sparks.  According to reports, her purity ring is inscribed with the words, "True Love Waits."

"My parents gave me a purity ring and talked to me about waiting until I'm married to have sex. It wasn't forced; it just made perfect sense. It's going to be awesome to say to my husband that I waited my whole life for him." 

It may be a long, lonely road, but I really think this girl has the inner strength and family love to help her achieve her dreams. 

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Julianne Hough

The former Dancing With The Stars beauty announced in 2008 that she was still a virgin and wanted to remain so until marriage.

Julianne dated her brother's best friend, and current DWTS professional, Mark Ballas, prior to her stint on DWTS.  She was also engaged to dancer Zach Wilson for a time.  As she pursued her country music career in 2008, Julianne began a very public relationship with country music singer Chuck Wicks.  The two broke up in November of 2009. 

Currently, Julianne, 22, is rumored to be dating Ryan Seacrest.  The two have avoided answering specifics about their rumored relationship, but the possible lovebirds were recently spotted canoodling while on vacation in Italy.

The latest rumor?  Julianne may be moving in with Ryan.  Interesting...could wedding bells be next?

Secret Celebrity 30-Something Virgin?

Definitely maybe. According to Gawker and CDaN, there is another 30-something virgin in this world tiptoeing through the sex jungle that is life, only she is doing it (or, you know, not doing it) in Hollywood. She-who-must-not-be-named is said to be very attractive and stars on a hit network television show.

Friday's Celebrity Frisky Virgin: Taylor Swift

In 2008, Taylor, now 20, confronted pregnancy rumors by announcing her virginity. She told Allure magazine in 2009, "...when you talk about virginity and sex publicly, people just automatically picture you naked.  And as much as I can prevent people picturing me naked, I'm going to."

Taylor is also best friends with last week's celebrity virgin, Selena Gomez. Stay strong until you find the one--your heart will guide you.

Every Friday, I thought it might be nice to highlight a celebrity virgin. Each celebrity virgin will have a status: rumored or confirmed by the media.

Whether she is a virgin or not, there is no denying Carrie Underwood is truly a classy girl. Much has been rumored about whether or not she is a virgin, but, to my knowledge, she has never confirmed or denied the rumors. After this weekend, I think it's safe to say the discussion will be moot, as Carrie, 27, will marry Ottawa Senators hockey player, Mike Fisher, 30. The beautiful couple will start a new journey together and I wish them everything magical this world has to offer.
