Sweet As Pie, That's Me...

…when not watching, you know, the Mavs or NASCAR...or sports in general.

Janie Junebug (love the name, plus Junebug is a nickname of Dale Jr.’s, so how could I not love it?) was kind enough to award me this yummy looking pie, er, award, and I couldn’t be hungrier, uh, happier.  Seriously, though, Janie is an absolute love, thank you darlin’.

So, seven random things about me…I’m going to try and go REALLY random.

  1. Not so much a fan of songs with people’s names in them.  I mean, how can you really relate to a song when it’s about someone named whatever?  Used to like Help Me Rhonda by the Beach Boys, mainly because the Beach Boys are awesome and a favorite of my parents.  But, then, Troy Aikman married Rhonda (not the one in the song. ;)) and I couldn’t quite like it as much, strictly due to a young girl’s crush and, you know, hormones.  Since he divorced Rhonda, I find it totally enjoyable again.  Go figure.  ;)

  1. Okay, so you know about my irrational zombie fear.  Well, someone asked when it started, and I’m pretty sure it was when I first saw Michael Jackson’s Thriller video.  Yeah, that video scared the crud out of me.  Love the song, though. Total Halloween classic.

  1. Speaking of zombies, if you show up on Halloween dressed as a flesh-eating beastie, please don’t be offended if I throw candy in your face and slam the door shut.  Should you try and practical joke me, prepare for a butt-kicking.  This is how serious a phobia I have over the rotted-skin-lot.

  1.  Public bathrooms are like giant germ monsters to me.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they sprouted teeth and squirted paralyzing plague venom.  To say I take extra precautions when using said bathrooms would be an understatement.  Let’s just say no sitting is ever involved (squatting only), and there is always an abundance of paper towels and hand sanitizer present and accounted for.

  1. Sometimes, when I’m cold, I’ll say, “Brr donkeys!”  No idea why, and no clue where it comes from.

  1. I have an addiction to King’s Cake—traditional kind, no filling.  One year, I got the baby from four different cakes.

  1. One of my all time favorite songs is Bobby Darin’s Beyond the Sea.

Okay, now it’s your turn! I’m going to pass this one to my 7 newest blogging friends, but everyone, please, take it and have fun. :)

Double Award Time!

I received two incredible awards from the wonderful Hazel just before Christmas.  Thank you so much, Hazel!

The first award is the Versatile Blogger Award. With this, the rules (or guidelines) are as follows:

1. Thank the blogger who awarded you (see above)
2. Reveal 5 facts about yourself.
3. Pass this award to 7 fellow bloggers.

Five Facts About Me:

* Tony Little scares me.  No joke.  He’s the guy with the long curly hair and does all those infomercials for elliptical machines and stuff.  I’m sure he’s a nice man and all, but…he scares me.  If they cast him in The Walking Dead as a zombie, I may never recover.

* I have forlorn eyebrows.  I swear I do.  It’s not so noticeable in person, but in pictures, when my bangs are pulled back or off to the side, they totally look forlorn.  Bangs are my best friends.

* Sometimes, I really love to listen to oldies—The Beach Boys, Smokey Robinson, The Doors, etc.  I love Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, James Taylor, and Carole King.  For me, their lyrics speak to life and love so profoundly.

I mean, how incredibly moving are these lyrics:

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air and feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun, they rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow it’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all.

~Both Sides Now, Joni Mitchell

* Animal based books and films are not such a good idea for me. Where the Red Fern Grows…yeah, I cried for days after that one.  Old Yeller?  Never. Again.

* I feel abandoned…by my empty Christmas cookie tin.

I'd like to give this award to my brand new blogging friends, who recently stumbled upon my tiny corner of the blogging world.  Some of them are brand new to blogging, so please stop by and say "hi" when you get a chance. :)

* Ginger at Quirks-and-irks
* Kate at Kick Mii Kate
* Barfly at SSS Porch Party
* Battle Born Brainiac at free stuff and cheap stuff

Now, the second award is the I Love Your Blog Award.

This award goes to EVERYONE because I really do love all of your blogs. :)

Checking In...With An Award Announcement!

So, it's still holiday time until the last bowl game is over (a bowl game that may very well make me sick to my stomach by game's end--I really don't know how I'm going to get through it. Geaux).

Dallas Cowboys: However, my Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs.  They lost to the Giants.  Bad.  It wasn't a huge surprise, to be honest.  Frankly, until the Cowboys go back to the formula that worked in the 1990s, I'm not confident we will ever see another playoff run or Super Bowl.  What is shocking (and, yet, not so much) is how our owner/GM can't see what's wrong with this team.

The formula that worked in the 1990s is the same formula that the last 15 Super Bowl Champions have had and continue to have. Just look at the Packers, Patriots, and Saints! It's not rocket science.

I miss my Cowboys of old.

Dallas Mavericks: However, I am ELATED to report my Dallas Mavericks are coming together! I tell you, I'm seeing some major growth in a very short period of time. The Mavs are going to be just fine.  I knew they would--it takes time for a team with new players to create a chemistry that turns into something magical.  Um, they beat the Thunder (almost twice--dang that buzzer shot in the first meeting)!

Never count out the Mavs...actually, I kind-of hope the talking heads count 'em out because they sure as heck did last year and we all saw how that turned out. ;)

Award Announcement: Tomorrow will be an award day! Hurray! I'd like to give one award to the wonderful new bloggers who found my blog--thank you so much and I can't wait to get to know y'all!

Yeah, this was a boring post, I know.  I'm sorry.

Um, here are some fun-facts to cut down the bore factor:

1. Mom keeps singing Write This Down by George Strait, only she totally butchers the lyrics: "Write this down, send me a little letter, put it on the fridge..."

2. BFF is so pissed at the Cowboys that he's pulling for the Saints. WHO DAT? WHO DAT? WHO DAT SAY DEY GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS? Yep, he's all in. Saints are doing it right--from management down, they've got the formula.

3. Dad has been adding Worcestershire sauce to his tomato juice--very bad and against doctor's orders.  He's in big trouble with Mom.

4.  Did you know that it's good luck to keep your Christmas tree up until February 2nd? I heard this the other day and was pretty floored. I guess some believe if you take it down beforehand, you put a hex on your family and if you keep it up past this date, it could be bring back luck.  If you have a real tree, you can just break off a branch and keep it until February 2nd.  Interesting, huh?

5. Oh! I saw a couple of Christmas facts that I had to share!!

* In 1930, Minnie and Mickey Mouse handkerchiefs were the number one Christmas present. How simple and sweet is that?!

* In Hungary, the Christmas Eve feast cannot be served until they see a twinkling star in the sky. Now I'm singing When You Wish Upon A Star.

Lion King Cuteness, Blog Award, & Kiss It.

Kiss It: We have some randomness this Friday, mainly because my brain has declared an early weekend due to its state of pi** off.  A certain HE made a cameo and proceeded to, yet again, show just how incredibly screwed up he is about things, namely how to treat others. The funny thing is, I'm not convinced he even gets what he does or says. I'm not mad or hurt on a personal level, just ticked on a human-to-human level. There's a way of treating people, you know, and it doesn't involve impersonating the Riddler.  I know this is all cryptic, but, like I said, the brain has left its pink slip for the day.

Lion King Cuteness: Mom told me Dad asked her if they had the DVD The Lion King.  She didn't think they had it, so Dad hopped on over to Target and came home with the DVD.

Once home, Mom told me she had to ask him about his interest in the DVD:

Mom: "Honey, why did you get The Lion King?"

Dad, a little coy: "'Cause I like the music."

Isn't that cute? This is a man who likes war movies, action films, and comedy-type things, like Wedding Crashers and Stripes, yet here he is buying a Disney movie. Too darn cute.

Blog Award: I received a wonderful award from the super adorably kind Purple.Mist! Thank you so much, sweetie, and huge congrats on finishing your exams!!!

Now, I'm supposed to pass this pretty award to 15 bloggers, but you know I'm ridiculously bad about that.   So, with it being the holidays and all, EVERYONE snatch it up and enjoy.

Extra Random Fun: Here's what y'all have suggested so far for my superhero alter ego super powers...

With invisibility already in check...

Lost.In.Idaho: Super honesty (no sugar coating--brutal bluntness only).

J.Day: Knock sense into people (I'm thinking this could work with the super honesty--like the result of brutal bluntness is common sense.)

LOLA: Harry & Hermione powers. (So, here, I'm thinking about taking Expecto Patronum and Petrificus Totalus and combining them into one super spell).

Loving your suggestions!!!  If y'all have any others, bring 'em on!!!

So, this weekend, aside from sweating over sports, I'll be working up my superhero identity--very fun. Great idea, Lex!!!

Have a great weekend!!!

One Lovely Blog Award & Fun Facts!

That Twenty Something Virgin was sweet enough to pass me this award and I couldn’t be happier. She’s adorable, witty, and an absolute sweetheart.  Thank you so much for this award, darlin’!

There’s so much to answer with this one, so let’s get started!

Rules:

  1. Link back to the person who gave you the award (see above)
  2. Complete form below
  3. Tell 7 random things about yourself
  4. Nominate 15 bloggers

Questionnaire:

* Name your favorite color: Pink is my signature color. (Thank you to Steel Magnolias for this line).

* Name your favorite song: When You Wish Upon A Star—my mama used to sing this to me when I was little.

* Name your favorite dessert: Chocolate Cream Pie

* What pisses you off? Mean people

* When you are upset, you:  Clean, then curl up, watch a fun movie, and eat cereal.

* Your favorite pet: My puppy from when I was little. Miss him so much.

* Black or White?  Black—it’s elegant, flattering, and so versatile.

* Everyday Attitude: Cautiously optimistic with a gallon of hope, a sprinkle of cynicism, and a dusting of pessimism.

* Your best feature: Reckon my heart.

* Guilty pleasure: Watching Dance With Me or Cocktail while indulging in chocolate milk and Captain Crunch (or chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream).

7 Random Things About Myself:

  1. Much like with clowns, I have a completely irrational fear of zombies.  The whole concept gives me the creeps.  And, yet, I watch that show The Walking Dead because of my True Blood withdrawals.

  1. I usually like to cuddle up in a blanket, even when it’s warm out.

  1. Um, I have a secret desire to ballroom dance *hides head* Think it would really bring out the sexy.

  1. Oh, I love organizing things! It’s thrilling to see something that needs organizing because then I can unleash my skills.

  1. I’m totally looking forward to the last ever Harry Potter DVD.

  1. I’m totally not looking forward to the LAST EVER Harry Potter DVD.

  1. The trailer to the new Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn, Part I, looks good and I look forward to seeing it…but so help me if it breaks any of the records smashed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.  I just don’t think the Twilight Saga comes anywhere close to Harry Potter.

Nominate 15 (and I added a couple to that):

I'm An Angel!

So, BFF likes to say I have an "inroad to angel wings," despite my tendency to verbally abuse referees during games, and I reckon he might be right because the delightful Hazel has kindly given me the You're An Angel Award!

She even wrote special thoughts for each blogger receiving the award. Here's what she said about me:

The Frisky Virgin - "LoveHeart"

You really don't need me to tell you how great you are because you are loved all over the blogosphere by everyone whose ever had the pleasure of meeting you. Any guy will be lucky to have you and I hope you find your Mr Right someday soon.

The award overwhelmed me enough, but then to read those words...they literally turned a gloomy day sunny (and, um, I might have gotten a little teary eyed.  I know, I know, I'm a dork.)

Thank you so much, Hazel--you are a special, wonderful, kind, thoughtful person and we are all so fortunate to know you. *Hugs*

A Few Sports Notes:

* Cowboys won big. Yay! Um, they beat the Rams...but, still, yay!

* Dale Jr. was "overruled" in Sunday's Talladega race--he wanted to run up front, but the 48 wanted to stay in the back.  Reckon no one can really say which strategy is better, but, personally, when it comes to Dale, who is the dang Yoda of restrictor plate racing, I'd go with what he wants to do. Using the "stay in the back" strategy didn't work so well.  NASCAR--I implore you...BRING BACK THE OLD STYLE RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING!!! PLEASE!

* Texas Rangers...ONE WIN AWAY. Now, you know I'm a Yankees fan, but I pull for the Rangers when the Yankees aren't in there. I'm hoping for all it's worth they win the World Series!!!

Monday Awards!

Many thanks and hugs to Alittlesprite who named me for two awards that I absolutely love! How can awards not make you grin from ear to ear?! They’re just such an honor.  Please visit her blog when you have time: Alittlesprite is sweet, funny, endearing, and just a joy to read.

The 7 x 7 Link Award is really cool.  This award asks you to go back through your blog posts and select ones for each of the following categories.

Most Beautiful: I’m not sure I’ve really written anything that classifies as beautiful. I guess I’d pick one that’s not really beautiful, but maybe just nice: The Good Old Crush.

Most Helpful:  Share Mail: Prom Pressure

Most Controversial: Wow, I don’t know.  I don’t think I have one for this.

Most Surprisingly Successful: Make Believe Marriage

Most Underrated: Why Wednesday #1 because it was my very first Why post.

Most Pride Worthy: It would have to be a tie between my very first post, My Independence Day, and Bittersweet

Now, I’m passing this award to 7 deserving bloggers (very tough for me):

Okay, the next award is really special. It’s for anyone who has less than 200 followers. The main function of this award is to give big blogging hugs to our fellow bloggers.

Following Alittlesprite’s lead, everyone listed above gets this award.

I’m also going to add 4 newer bloggers that I hope everyone will take some time to visit and welcome to Blogging Land.

Monday Night Football--Dallas Cowboys.  Washington Redskins.  Can you guess what my heart rate is going to be like? Let's go 'Boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, feeling slightly hurl-ish.

Double Award Wednesday with Randomness!

I’m thinking we need some awards. :)

Apparently, I’m versatile and sweet, according to two awards I received from the amazing KLo.  She's sweet, funny, and a profoundly talented writer. If you haven't stopped by her blog, please do so when you get a chance--you won't be disappointed.

So, here are the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who gave you the award (see above)
  2. Reveal 7 random facts about yourself:

--Dishes ritual: Okay, I know I’ve told you about my peculiar enjoyment of washing dishes.  Yeah, I can’t explain it either.  Anyway, I have this football (well, sports in general) ritual…or habit….whatever.  When my teams are tickin’ me off, I’ll head to the kitchen, turn on the game (yes, there is a t.v. in the kitchen—missing any part of the game is not an option), and start washing.  I do this for two main reasons: 1. I’m ticked and need to keep busy, and 2. for some bizarre reason, I find if I do the dishes when they’re sucking it up, they seem to come to life and start scoring. Go figure.

--The only way I can stop hiccupping is if I drink water backwards (bend over, drink from opposite side o’the glass).  And the only way this is not a disaster is if I use a short, squat glass, which I learned when a tall plastic cup splashed water up my nose upon random hiccup while bent over trying to stop said hideous hiccups.

--I absolutely loathe when my feet get wet, apart from showering, of course. If I’m wearing sandals, step in a puddle, and my feet get wet, it’s all I can do to keep from grabbing a Kleenex and start drying them off in front of everybody. Ewy. And if I’m wearing socks around the house and step in something wet (like a melted ice cube in the kitchen, thanks to my fridge’s overactive ice maker)…double ewy.

--Fruit snacks are the best.  I love ’em and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I have no shame grabbing boxes of Disney princess fruit snacks, Scooby, Alvin and the Chipmunks, you name it, and tossing them in my grocery cart.

--I’m not much of a bread eater.  If I do eat bread, I like it on the side.  I don’t like how some places plop it smack dab on top of the food on my plate.  I mean, it gets soaked in the food juices or gravy and goes all soggy and the flavor is completely different—it turns to blah, wet bread. Then, I find little bits of soggy bread in my meal. Not appealing.

--Confession: I love Ice Road Truckers and Top Shot (hosted by Colby Donaldson, one of my very favorite Survivor contestants).

--I have a tendency to get lost in Home Depot.  It’s not like finding the handbag section in some air-conditioned department store (can do that in under 60 seconds).  Home Depot is hot, big, a little intimidating, and it mocks me. I usually end up weaving in and out of those freakishly tall shelves crammed with spooky-looking gadgets that make absolutely zero sense to me until I manage to find my way out or someone asks if they can help me find something...like the exit.

  1. Give the award to 7 fellow bloggers (because there are two awards, I'm doubling that number and adding an extra...because I'm rubbish at singling people out--everybody deserves them).

Award Monday--I'm Digging It!

J. Day surprised me last week with the "I Dig Your Blog" award--thank you, darlin', you made my week. I love reading about J. Day's adventures with all those adorable animals! Her blog is refreshing, fun, funny, and endearing. If you haven't visited, you are really missing out on something special.

Now, for this award, we:

1. Thank the blogger who gave us this award (see above)

2. Reveal 3 random facts about ourselves:

a. I love flashlights. Not only are they handy to have in case of a power outage, but they're just freaking fun. I never knew how many different kinds of flashlights there were until we had a brownout and I was dragged to the Home Depot. Let's just say I walked away with a boatload of things that put out light in very different ways. My favorite flashlights? My Harry Potter and Hermione light-up wands. What? They classify as flashlights...really...they do.  *the fact that I swish and flick and say "Lumos" is completely irrelevant.*

b. Single Gal Behavior Alert: Sometimes, when I'm really bored, I'll braid my hair in a bunch of little braids.  After a while, I'll take them all out and...ta da...I'll have Daryl Hannah hair, circa Splash!

Disney

I loved that movie when I was little, even pretended to fall out of the bathtub with a "fin." My mom knew when she heard a "thud" that I was playing Splash again.

c. Garbage Disposals freak me out.  I stand sideways and as far away as I can, press the button, and scoot backwards as quickly as possible.  Why? Well, I've had a couple of unfortunate run-ins with them basically deciding to regurgitate all over my face. This is so not ideal for an anti-germ person. Having totally freaked my mom out with the idea of germs covering her skin and/or clothes, she decided to try and "outrun" the spit-up.  This, however, proved less than effective when she tripped on her own feet and fell flat on her butt.  We heard a little jog, then the squeaky sound of a shoe, followed by a high-pitched, "Oop!" and a thud.  One minute, there's mom, standing in the kitchen, and the next it's, "Um, where's mom?" "I'm on the floor!" she laughed. To this day, we all laugh to the point of tears over that one.

3.  Pass this award to five fellow bloggers (by far the toughest part...which is why I always add to that)

* Jay

* PurpleMist

* Anna

* Chanel

* Barsola

* According To Jewels

* The Average Girl

Dale, Cowboys, & Award Time

Dale Jr.: Pit crew, pit crew, pit crew. Y’all are putting this race fan on the ceiling like a nervous little cat.  Dale had yet another solid day, but after an iffy late pit and some pit problems, he ended up 14th on the day.  He drove the wheels off that car to put the team in position.  It’s frustrating (a feeling I know all too well—it has become my annoying and predictable companion).  Maybe I could try out for the pit crew—I can be freakishly strong when I want to be.

Anyway, he’s still 9th in points (hurrah!).  Here’s the thing: Dale is having a strong, strong season.  Anyone who says otherwise is absolutely ridiculous.  This is his first year with Steve Letarte—they’re getting to know one another, learning with one another.  With a few tweaks here and there, I truly believe this team is on the brink of greatness.  Spoken like a true Dale Jr. fan, I know, but I really do believe it—and I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t believe.

Cowboys: We’re nearing the end of summer.  The grocery store released its first batch of apple cider doughnuts, and the Cowboys played in a nationally televised preseason football game.  Happy days.  Football is back and I have one thing to say, “Hello, Lover.” I’m thinkin’ football is my boyfriend—pretty hunky, huh? He’s mighty sexy and oh-so-popular.

Award: And, to my total shock, I received a second Blog On Fire Award, this time from Jay. I’m only just getting to know him, but I can already tell he is caring, supportive, straight forward, and funny.  If you haven’t visited his blog, please do so when you get a chance—you won’t be disappointed.

Now, for the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who gave you this award (see above)

  1. List five previously unknown facts about yourself (you can make ‘em saucy if you want).

  • Last time I told y’all how the revving engines in NASCAR kinda, um, get me a little hot under my AMP t-shirt.  Another thing that does it…fighter jets flying overhead (which, ironically, they do before the start of every NASCAR race).  Apparently, I have an affinity for things that go fast (more irony). I blame batman and his spiffy batmobile.

  • When I hear the NFL theme songs (Fox, Monday Night Football, Sunday Night Football), I get chills. You just feel the electricity and you know it’s on. These aren’t quite on the level of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” but they’re up there.

  • One of my very favorite snacks is chips and salsa.  My daddy introduced me to this snack when I was in second grade. It became my everyday-after-school-snack while I watched Kids Incorporated and Saved By The Bell.  Little did I know I was getting a daily dose of veggies in that salsa.

  •  Apart from salad, I wasn’t good about eating my veggies as a kid. Heck, I’m not great about eating my veggies today—I scrunch up my nose, grin, and shove ’em down first, then enjoy the good parts of the meal.

  • The idea of dangling my feet in the water (lakes, ocean, etc.) wigs me out.  I can’t help but wonder what the heck is lurking below. I’ve watched too many shark/gator/piranha movies.

  1. Pass this award to 5 fellow bloggers. This is the tough part for me. I want to pick everybody, but I’ll try to stick to five…plus a few. ;)

My Blog Is On Fire, Which Means It's Award Time!

Mondays are so much better with an award! Anna thoughtfully passed this award to me and I couldn’t be happier. If you haven’t had the chance to visit her blog, please hop on over. She’s smart, sweet, funny, and just a joy to read.

According to this award, my blog is on fire! How cool is that?!  This virgin’s blog is smoking hot! Sizzling!  Blazing! Okay, I’ll stop.  It’s just so exciting! Yeah, I need a social life.

The Blog on Fire Award

Rules:
1. Thank the kind blogger who passed this award to you (see above);

2. Reveal 5 things about yourself (if you want, how about making said revelations a little hot? After all, this is an on fire award). ;)

a. I’ve always wanted to dress up as Catwoman circa Michelle Pfeiffer.  Meow. Purr.

b. “For your eyes only, darling.” What I will say to him (whoever he may be) one day.  It’s from the James Bond movie of the same name (For Your Eyes Only).  I’ve always thought it was a sexy thing to say.

c. I totally melt when I hear Josh Turner’s I Wouldn’t Be A Man.  It’s beautiful, yet sexy, and the video is so sweet.  Ladies, if you haven’t heard his voice…prepare to get all melt-y.

d. When I hear NASCAR engines rev up, um, I get a little…well…you know…turned on. Of course, this can be said for the start of the football season, too.  I reckon sports are just an aphrodisiac for me…unless my team loses…then they’re a dang poison that turns me into an inanimate object.

e. Exercising. Not my favorite thing to do.  So, I spice it up a little. I like to shake it with a little Bollywood dancing, belly dancing, burlesque dancing, etc. It works, it’s fun, you feel super sexy, and you learn some saucy little moves.

3. Pass this along to 7 fellow bloggers (as always, this award is open to everybody who wants it, since, to me, all of y’all are blazing hot!).

a. Yvonne (after all you’ve been dealing with in the man market, you more than deserve this award)

b. Jewels (a total no-brainer)

c. Cinderita (another no-brainer)

d. KLo (because you’re awesome and have amazing thoughts to share)

e. That 20 Something Virgin (I mean, hello? Fellow virgin in the world!)

f.  Oilfield Trash(because, like his blog, he is on fire!)

g.  Lost.In.Idaho(again, because you’re awesome)

h. J. Day (I think you could rock this, country style)

i. Drake  (because you’re so funny and I just really want to see what your imagination would come up with)

j. Rawknrobyn  (your posts on why you’re celibate are brilliant and I think you could have fun with this award).

k. Beliza (no doubt you will come up with fun, yet thoughtful things for this award)

l. Chanel (with your humor, you just had to get this)

m. Barsola (no question, this award was going to you)

I know, I know, I picked more than 7...if I could, I'd go through and name all of you. Remember, this award is for EVERYONE, so snatch it up and have fun.

I want to also say a big "Hello" to my new followers--or, as I like to call y'all, my blogging friends. *waves 'hello'*

Rowdy, Proud, & Loud--It's Award/Thank You Time

As you know, for months, I've been consumed with my Dallas Mavericks run for the championship.  I've loved them for as long as I can remember, so with each game, each win, the anticipation, excitement, and nervousness increased to levels I can only assume reached some unknown stratosphere.

Sunday night, the run ended in spectacular fashion with the Dallas Mavs winning their very first NBA Championship.  It was truly a dream season.

I've been so incredibly touched by how many of you supported my devotion to my team, which included some hot-under-the-collar posts about, oh, you know, one-sided announcers, people who constantly put my Mavs down, etc. From the seriously giddy to the rather emotional moments, y'all were there, supporting me and my Mavs, and I want to thank you.

The fact that you even pulled for my Mavs...well, that just meant the world to me. As corny as it sounds, I kinda like to think the Mavs could feel all of the support coming their way.

So, for all of you who put up with my Mavs-sporty-gal posts...this is just a little something for you. The Rowdy, Proud, & Loud Award...well, really it's just a thank you.

With love from a Mavericks' fan.

Somnia, Jewels, Eva (even though you don't accept awards...since this is really just a big thank you, I figured you might not mind too much), Aubree, Chanel, Yvonne, Oilfield Trash, Carole, kitkat, Mrs. B, Chocolateangel, Jack of Diamonds, Not The Hero, George, David (even though he didn't pull for my Mavs, he's a basketball fan and a good sport).

If I missed anyone, I'm sorry--you know who you are and you know I love ya to bits!

Rules? None. This is simply a thank you...a blogging hug of sorts. There are no rules with thank yous. Hugs to you all...

...and, one last time this season...

GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!

Come One & All To The Overlord Award!

Disclaimer: Um, I got carried away with this one! So, I give you a fairytale of sorts, albeit a little twisted. I hope you enjoy it. *blushes*

“Hear ye, hear ye! Welcome one and all to the annual hunky blokes jousting…oops…wrong scroll.”  The shaky little man, with his bushy white mustache nervously twitching, looked at me concernedly. I simply smiled and urged him to carry on.   Dear, sweet Stumbles.  He is a devoted subject and friend, but he can be a bit scatterbrained.

Straightening his velvet blue cape emblazoned in gold with the letters TFV, Stumbles cleared his throat and began reading the next scroll.  “Hear ye, hear ye! You are cordially invited to the royal wedding…oh dear…my mistake, your majesty.  If I may, ruling without needing a King is highly respectable today in a world so consumed with…”

“Thank you, Stumbles, now kindly proceed…with the appropriate scroll,” I said gently while adjusting my sapphire and pink diamond crown.

“Of course, my Queen, right away,” said Stumbles, rummaging through his collection of scrolls.  With a worried little whimper, he started yet again.  “Hear ye, hear ye! Our fair Queen has been granted the power of Overlord by the beloved Queen Jewels of Precious Gemland.  I now give you, our Queen,” he said, bowing so low the tip of his round red nose brushed the plush pink carpeting.

“Thank you Stumbles.  As with any power, there are certain responsibilities I must address," I began, working to keep my voice from getting that nervous wobbly sound.

“I must first thank my dear friend, Queen Jewels, for bestowing this power upon me. I hope to make her proud in my choices.  Second, three changes must be made to our lives.  And third, I shall bestow this power upon ten friends worthy of world domination.”

I slowly stood, glowing scepter in hand, and did what any public speaker does—I pictured everyone in the immaculately dressed crowd stark naked.  And my, my, Sir Lifts-A-Lot is looking mighty buff.  Ooh, and just look at Baroness Boobaledge trying to catch Prince Charming’s eye! Baroness, my foot—more like Temptress Trampy Trollop!

“Your Majesty,” muttered Stumbles, hiding his words in a cough.  “The changes to be made…”

“Oh!” Darn it. My first act as an Overlordess and I allow a set of muscles and a skanky alley cat to throw me off course.  Composure.  “The three changes to be made are as follows,” I said, steadying my voice into a firm, yet gentle tone.

First, the term celebrity shall no longer be defined by the following: fifteen minutes, falling over drunk, having a limited vocabulary of swear words, lifting one’s skirt, sleeping with a married athlete or public figure, screaming, breaking things, or otherwise act in a way that makes people want to gouge out their eyes and pull off their ears.

Second, Lady Luck and I shall duel, wherein I will win.  You see my friends, Lady Luck, believed to be a generous mystical bringer of positive energy, is really a subjective evil shrew, descending from the depths of she-devil hell. No more will she shower undeserving ghouls and wenches with copious amounts of good fortune! No more will you good people suffer from rotten luck! Lady Luck will, henceforth, cast good luck upon everyone equally.”

“In an effort to promote truth and acceptance, my third change involves a series of enchantments designed to protect the innocent and teach the wrongdoers a memorable lesson:

-The Spew & Sniff: From now on, all women will know when a man is b.s.’ing them, for they will smell it from a mile away. To all men who relish in feeding women b.s.—for every utterance of b.s., you will smell like the rear end of a cow after eating too much chili chow.  And to the teasing ladies who do the same to men…same goes for you.

-The Bully Backfire: No one will bully, tease, or demean someone for their life’s choices.  Should you attempt physical violence upon another, your fists will swell to five times their size and turn upon you.  You will, in effect, bully yourself, and hopefully knock some sense into your otherwise puny little brain.  Should you verbally attack another…your mouth will betray you.  It will yell at you, ridicule you, and spill your darkest, most humiliating secrets for the world to hear.

“Lastly, my friends, I am to bestow this power upon ten of you.  Please know how terribly difficult this task was for me. In fact, I added a few extra deserving friends.

“I know each of you will use this power wisely. Thank you all,” I said, breathing a sigh of relief.

Now, I really must pick up my glass slippers, retrieve my talking clock from the clockmaker, and plan a ball, where all eligible bachelors are to attend.

The End.

Award Time: Pay It Forward Award

What’s better than an award to kick off a long weekend? How about two?! Technically, one was from a while ago. *blushes*  Bad me.  Not to worry, I will do it justice in its very own post (I baby these awards, huh?).

For today, we have the Good Bloggers Pay It Forward Award.

Somnia recently stumbled upon my little corner of bloggersville and I’m so very glad she did.  Not only is she a talented writer, but she is strong, honest, funny, and amazingly supportive of her fellow bloggers.  And let me tell you, she loves her country music...and loves cheering on the Mavs!  I’m incredibly honored to receive this award from her.

You know how awards come with rules?  I kinda don’t like calling them rules, so I’m going the pirate route and renaming them guidelines.

So, the guidelines for this award are as follows:

1. Name the blogger who gave me this award. (See Above)
2. Post a link to their blog.  (See Above, and please visit when you have a chance--she's a sweetheart!)
3. Pay it forward to five more bloggers--very difficult task, but I'd like to pay it forward to some new blogging friends.

Chanel at Fabulously Neurotic

Mrs. B at Go Ahead, Take a Bite

Carole at Carole Reid Artist

Anna at Artist's Charm

Beliza at A Series of Random Thoughts

Like I have said before, I am awful at selecting only a few bloggers when everyone is so deserving (I always feel so dang guilty).  I just think the world of all of you...so...I formally pay it forward to EVERYONE. I'm such a dang softy!

*Note: No idea why the font and size changed. :/ Apologies.

Mavs, Please Win & Monday Awards!

First and foremost, I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday!!

Now for the hard part: I must acknowledge the mind-numbing collapse of my Mavs in Game 4 on Saturday. *deep breath time* Just say it and get it over with.  Okay. With my Mavs up by more than 20 late in the game, Portland came back to win. Oh, Lord, that was hard to think, much less type. While watching what many are dubbing the "ultimate choke," I sat very still, much like the eye of a category five hurricane. By the end of said game, I was left wondering how on God's green earth the Mavs just coughed up a win and a 3-1 lead in the series.

Credit to Portland, of course, but I simply do not understand what happened.  With the series now tied at 2-2, I'm guessing the Mavs will have to battle themselves more so than Portland if they are going to win this series.  They can do it...I know they can. Next game: tonight. *copious amounts of Cadbury Eggs will be consumed*

Monday Awards:

How nice is it to awaken to awards on a Monday? Thank you so much to the wonderfully sweet, funny, and supremely talented PencilGirl, who added some sun to a really gloomy day, actually (hey, sun, where are you? Tired of the cold, now!). Please take a moment to visit her blog and be prepared to stay--it's that enjoyable. :)

The first award is one she created for anyone who has commented on her blog--how amazing is that?! I would like to pass this award to every single one of you! You might already know this, but it's worth repeating: your comments are like the white gravy on chicken fried steak--without the white gravy, the chicken fried steak wouldn't be nearly as good. *Hugs*

There are no strings with this award, except to bring smiles. :)

The second award is the Versatile Blogger Award!

For this one, I did not see any rules posted, apart from passing it along to 7 fellow bloggers.  But, just for fun, here are 5 random factoids:

1. Not a fan of clowns. Overall, they creep me out. My mom dressed me as a clown for Halloween one time.  Admittedly, the costume and makeup looked unbelievable.  However, when I looked in the mirror, I wigged myself out. Never told her that, though. The only clown I ever really liked was Ronald McDonald. Why? Because he's the one with the fries and Happy Meal toys. Duh. Still holds true today, truth be told. ;)

2. Diverse Music Selection: One minute I'm singing Gotta Be Somebody by Nickelback, and the next I'm chillin' to La Vie en Rose.

3.  My favorite James Bond movie is The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore as Bond--it is the very first Bond film I remember watching with my dad. It's a special-memory-movie. :)

4. Sean Connery, however, is my favorite Bond. Each actor to play Bond has brought his own unique flare to the role, but Sean Connery was just...sigh.  I could never quite gel with Timothy Dalton, however.

5.  Dobby: I loved Dobby from the Harry Potter books. I know he annoyed some, but I thought he was such a true, honest friend to Harry. And, um, I cried like a baby at the end of Deathly Hallows, Part I. There, I said it.

As always, I would like to pass this award to everyone reading (I'm such a softy)! ALL of you deserve these awards! Hopefully, they will make you happy. :)

Happy Award Time

I don't know about y'all, but this week has been jam-packed with stress and general ugh. I blame tax time--it always seems to put people in a cranky mood.  So, in an effort to tackle tax grief, I have an award to give out!

Award:  I have to give many, many thanks to Starlight, who surprised me with the Blog With Substance Award! It couldn't have come at a better time! If you haven't visited her blog, please do so when you have the chance--she's so creative, kind, and fun!

Rules: Reveal 7 random things about yourself and pass this award to 7 fellow bloggers.

For the reveal:

1.  Bring It On Home by Little Big Town is one of my favorite songs. I love to turn it up, rest my head, close my eyes, and hope.

2.  Football Tears: When another season passes by (both college and pro), I feel a sense of deep and profound emptiness. How will I spend my Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and sometimes Thursdays? Thank The Good Lord NASCAR starts pretty quickly thereafter. ;)

3.  Dance With Me and Cocktail are two of my guilty pleasure movies. Salsa, sand, and two handsome leading men--need I say more?

4.  Gross Grass: I can't stand the smell of freshly cut grass--literally.  It's not that it smells particularly bad, but the minute I catch a whiff, my nose and eyes react something awful!

5.  90s R&B: Honestly, those years produced so many AMAZING songs. I actually miss R&B like it was in the 90s.

6. Rudolph & Frosty: When I was little, I used to cry at the end of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer--I didn't want Santa to fly away. I cried during Frosty the Snowman as well--two words: Frosty Melts.

7.  Chipmunks: I love 'em. They are the cutest little peanuts! I have one that likes to sleep on my doormat. He just popped up for Spring and was back on my doormat the other day. I love him. His name? Duh, Chip!

Pass to 7 bloggers: You know what I have to do--EVERYBODY! If you want this award, pick it on up, and have fun with it! Everybody needs smiles, right? :)

Happy Monday: It's Award Time!

Stephanie was sweet enough to pass "The Incredibly Sweet" blog award to me. She is such a sweetheart--definitely visit her blog when you have a chance...you won't be disappointed: she is honest, funny, endearing, and just a joy to read.

As part of this award, I need to reveal 5 random facts about myself.

1.  Miracle Whip Me: One of my favorite beauty routines is turning my face into a sandwich. I smear Miracle Whip all over my face, leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes, and then wash it off to uncover baby-soft skin.  Basically, it's a super cheap alternative to a mask for dry skin.  It makes my face red for an hour or so, but it makes my skin soooooo soft.  My eyes water while it's on and I tend to smell like a sandwich, but it's better than a $40-$50 mask!

2.  Sports Dreams: Since I was little, I have been able to accurately dream the outcomes of sporting events, especially ones involving my teams.  It's uncanny.  It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, I pay attention. Some of the wildest ones have involved the LSU Tigers...and if you have followed LSU football the past few years, you would know why I use the word "wild."

3.  The Blue Man Group: Scares the ever-loving crap outta me. No idea why, but they totally wig me out. And yet I love Smurfs. Go figure.

4.  Superstitious: Yeah, I kinda am, especially when it comes to football. When I was in junior high, I would make posters prior to a Dallas Cowboys game. Every single blasted time I did that, they lost. After about 3 losses, I declared poster-making a jinx and never did them again.

5.  Walking on tiptoes: I like walking on my tiptoes when I go upstairs. Random, right? Reckon a plus side is the whole leg-strengthening thing.

Now, I have to pass this award to five special bloggers.  Well, I'm going to break the rules here because I'm naughty like that (hey, I have to be naughty about something, right?).  I've seen this done before and I just think it's such a great idea...so...EVERYONE gets this award! If you read this, take it and have fun with it! You all deserve it.

*****************************************************************

Tag Time! The adorable Lex tagged anyone who read her post and wished to participate.  If you haven't visited her blog, please do so--not only is she a total sweetheart, but she has a good head on her shoulders, won't let anyone walk over her, and is funny as heck.

Rules: 1. List 3 things you love about yourself; 2. Post a picture you love; 3. List 5 bloggers to whom you are passing this along.

Three things I love about myself:

* I am who I am.  I'm not trying to be something/someone I'm not.  What you see is what you get...I'm not afraid to just be me, flaws and all.

* I love how much I love my parents.  My mama and daddy mean the world to me.  I just love them so much and wish I could take their dreams, wrap them up with a great big bow, and make them come true.

* I love how I can stand toe-to-toe with a guy on sports. The sparring is so much fun.

Picture: Animal House. When I hear or read nonsensical crap spewed on the news or in entertainment headlines, I always, always think of this scene. I figure this image sums up my mindset pretty nicely.

List five bloggers: In keeping with Lex, and the above award, I'm tagging ANYONE who reads this post and would like to participate!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

The LOL Award, Part Two

We have another LOL award to give out!! Thank you so much, J. Day for my second LOL Award. If you haven't visited her blog, please do--she is fantastic!!!

Rather than select a few fellow bloggers to receive this award, I'm changing the rules and passing it to EVERYONE! Go on, grab the LOL Award and do what you like with it. Honestly, all of you bring the smiles, making it an impossible task to narrow it down to a mere 7...plus, I really don't like leaving anyone out--I know, I know, I'm a softy. Truly, I think everyone deserves it. :)

So, now I have to reveal 7 previously unknown factoids about myself (this is getting kinda tough, actually):

1. I'm a huge fan of the t.v. show Dallas. My mama introduced me to J.R., Bobby, and the whole Ewing clan at a pretty young age, and I've loved it ever since. The theme song is truly one of the best in television history...at least to me. *blushes*

2. I tend to collect pens. Wherever I travel, I have to get a pen representing the area.

3. Williamsburg is one of my favorite places to visit. It's so beautiful there. The guys in costume have absolutely nothing to do with it. ;)

4.  My very favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. I love the whole theme of seeing past the surface to the beauty of the soul.

5. Haunted houses scare the living daylights out of me. When I was in third grade, our school had a haunted house, which I thought would be fun. After all, we're little kids--how scary could it be? Well, one bloody, headless dude offering me a bowl of eyeballs and Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street jumping out of nowhere officially did it for me and haunted houses. It was a little too much for a young child. Still, I love the idea of haunted houses...I'd probably still go to one.

6. Sometimes, I like to listen to instrumental music. Several of my very favorite soundtracks include: Sabrina, The Thomas Crown Affair, and Pride & Prejudice. The music is so calming.

7.  Fifth grade: One of my classmates threw a huge Halloween party at her house (actually, it was more like a mansion). Everyone had to dress in costume for the party. It was pretty common knowledge that the coveted costume awards would be given to her personal friends. My best friend grumbled, wishing one of us would win something; I just wished I could win something for my mom, who did an amazing job on my kitty cat costume. But, I didn't know the girl very well, so I figured there was little chance of me winning anything. Then, shockingly, I heard my name called for "the big award," Cutest. Think that was the only time I won anything...and it still remains one of my fondest memories--because I could take that award and show it to my mama. :)

I'm Funny!!! It's Award Time!

The LOL Award: My sleepless day was totally made yesterday when the wonderful PencilGirl left me a wonderful award on her blog. On top of that, she thinks I'm kinda funny! Yay!!! I'm convinced humor is the cure-all for dealing with jackholes.

 Rules: 1. Thank and link to the blogger who gave you this award (see above); 2. Pass this award to seven fellow bloggers who make you giggle: Sandra; Aunt of 14; Simple Dude; Rebekah; Alessandra; Yvonne; Drew; Jewels;
The Mad Fat Girl

3. Reveal 7 unknown things about yourself.

a. My eyes appear to change color from their normal blue. If I cry or have watery eyes, they look aqua; if I wear green, they look very green.

b. I used to have the biggest crush on Zack Morris (Saved By The Bell).

c. French Music/Latin Music: Love both. Sometimes, I just put on a salsa beat and cut loose; other times, I chill to some relaxing French music.

d.  My favorite Broadway show is Phantom of the Opera. The music caught my ear when I was about seven years old--loved it ever since. Every time I hear That's All I Ask Of You, I cry.

e.  I'm a total believer in jinxing your teams. When I was in high school, I, on occasion, would make "Go Cowboys" signs for game day. Every time I made the sign, they lost (which wasn't often because they won the Super Bowl in those days). So, to this day, I refuse to make signs, hang banners, or wear anything related to my Cowboys on game day. In fact, this holds true across the board. If the Cowboys are playing, I wear a Texas Longhorns shirt; when the Longhorns are playing, I wear an LSU shirt; when LSU plays, I wear a Cowboys shirt, etc. Works pretty well unless your team is just total rubbish for a season, then it doesn't really matter. I love my teams too much to risk jinxing them.

f.  My favorite flower is the daisy--they remind me of a smiling sunshine. I just love them...and pink roses.

g. I can't stand for my feet or hands to hang off the edge of my bed. Dunno why. Maybe it goes back to when I was little and believed the monster dwelling under the bed would grab them. ;)

Tomorrow's the big day! Guest blogger over at Jewel's blog!!!!! :)
