Truth Is Thursday: Single Gal Mind Dump and M&M's

Truth Is: What’s up with the wedding marathons on television?  Seriously.  Channels like Hallmark and Lifetime and, I don’t know, others, have had wedding weekends since January.

Pretty sure one of them begged viewers to celebrate “Wedding Month.” Huh, what, and more huh?  June is the official wedding month.  Not January, not February (apart from V-Day, which is like engagement day), not March, April, or May—June, and ONLY June.

And I know this isn’t just annoying to me as a single because even my mom said it was ridiculously obnoxious.  Now, when my fairytale-happy, loves-to-watch-happy, happy, joy, joy-movies mom says as much, you know it must be white-dress and butter cream icing overkill.

Sorry.  Had to just, you know, get that off my mind because…

Truth Is: …my brain is standing room only.  I’m surprised I don’t have to WD-40 the dang thing.  It’s just going and going and going and going. It won’t shut the heck up and let me be, much less sleep.

Truth Is:  Kind of getting sick of the: “You’ll need x-y-z when you have kids one day…if you have them, I mean.”  Oh, the “Your clock must be ticking about now, right?” is always pleasant.  And let’s not forget the classically annoying, “Well, you’ll probably find him someday.”

Anyone have ANY suggestions for how to respond to those statements?  I'm getting tired of responding with the plastered smile and resigned nod.  I don’t think they’re trying to be mean or anything—it’s more like they forgot about their stay in Singletonville.

These same women HATED when the Marrieds made those kinds of statements/questions.  Yet, here they are, cuddling up to the ideology they once loathed, while busily inserting it in my life.

I sometimes wonder if marriage acts as a partial lobotomy on the single gal mindset for some women.

Truth Is: My Mavs play the Heat tonight. *Hurl* If we hadn't annihilated them in the Championship last year *bliss*, I'd be much more nervous.  Jason Terry is rumored to be breaking out the gold shoes for the match up. lol Gotta love Jet.

Truth Is: And, lastly, one of my favorite commercials right now is this M&M ad. Totally makes me laugh every single time.

  1. I am so totally burned out on being single right now...but not in a good way. Not in a sweet wedding movie kind of way. Not in a sappy love story overload kind of way. No...that'd be blissful right now. I'm fed up in a "men keep sending me pictures and not VIDEO of their penises" kind of way! I GIVE UP!!!!!!!

    Sorry...had to vent. lol.

    1. *Wide eyes, gaping mouth* They are STILL sending you pics like that, even after you posted about how you don't appreciate it?! I don't blame you giving up...

...but don't because he's out there, waiting, and not sending pics of his perky.

      *Hugs*

  2. How to respond to those marrieds? Hmm, it involves a certain finger. Delivered with a smile, of course. lol

Or, if you want to be all nice, just politely tell them that you really don't appreciate the "probably's", the "someday's", and the sad sympathetic looks. And if they can't have a conversation with you that doesn't include these phrases, then maybe THEY should stay home. And THEN deliver said finger with a smile if they start right in again. :o)

    1. LOL-Sounds good to me! lol And really, what is it with the "probably's" and "somedays?" Why do some Marrieds feel the need to sprinkle them in conversations? Those words are as frustrating as, say, "including, but not limited to," etc. :/

    2. K, so I tried replying a bit ago, and it came up with "error" after my typing for forever. Let's try it again.

Wanna know what my OWN mother said to me last month? It included the words "sperm bank", so I'll let you go from there. IN TARGET of all places. Once I recovered I said, "Oh and who will pay for that, Mom? I'm walking away now." She chased after me (literally), apologizing and saying how it was only a joke. Ha. Ha. HA. It's like they think we're running out of time and eggs - which I guess we are, but not as fast as they think we are!!

    3. I think something's been going on with leaving comments lately. :/

Oh. My. No. So very no. Time and eggs--I really get annoyed by those words. And clock. And tick-tock. You know, more and more women are having babies and settling down later in life--it happens when it's meant to happen...it's different for everyone.

  3. Wow! I wish I had a good reply to use when people make those stupid comments. If you don't mind telling a fib, you could say you found him but he was killed by a drunk driver. Play the sympathy card in whatever way feels comfortable.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. I'm pretty sure the sympathy card would just add fuel to the fire with this lot. :/ I'll just focus on the benefits of being single...and treat myself to McDonald's or a handbag or something. lol :)

    1. It's pretty darn annoying, but it is what it is. Thank goodness for good movies like Harry Potter and You've Got Mail, etc. lol :)

  6. You could always throw them for a loop and tell them you've decided to remain a single, independent woman. Along with what Carole said :-) *chuckle*

  7. As dumb as this sounds, I think those people, just want us to be as happy as they are and so they ask those questions thinking they are doing us a favour when all their doing is pissing us off.

  8. my favourite: it's just not your time yet.
    yeah thanks for that.
I dedicated a blog to all those hideous well meaning phrases.
In fact perhaps the response should always be: yeah thanks for that, I hadn't thought about it like that before...accompanied by look of wonder and amazement.
