Truth Is Thursday: Dallas Returns

Dallas, Then: Photo Credit, CBS Archives, Getty Images

You know I love my hometown. You know I’m a rabid Dallas Cowboys fan. Pretty sure you’ve seen me go ballistic over the Dallas Mavericks.

So it probably won’t shock you to know I’m a huge fan of the television show, Dallas. And today, it’s all about the return of the Ewings, Southfork, the Cattle Baron’s Ball, backstabbing, double secret backstabbing, and that iconic theme…it’s Dallas, in full force.

Last night, Dallas returned on TNT with a new generation, but don’t fret, J.R., Bobby, and Sue Ellen were all very much present. Oh, I was in 8th heaven, Texas style (and who wore #8? Aikman. Yeah, I went there).

I watched the original when I was a little girl with my mama, so to see it return with so many of its original qualities was as awesome as a Thanksgiving Day win in Cowboys Stadium.

If you enjoyed the original Dallas, you will enjoy its return—it’s got everything. The cast is pitch-perfect, the plot is as twisted, deliciously juicy, and unpredictable as its predecessor, and the familiar Texas landmarks hug us like a big blanket of bluebonnets.

This Dallas Texan gives it two very enthusiastic Yee-haw’s!

What exactly is my truth this Thursday?

Truth Is: I love Dallas! Welcome back! And I must not be the only one…Dallas won the night in ratings!

“Bettin' against J.R.’s son would be like bettin' against the Dallas Cowboys…downright unpatriotic.”~Dallas, 2012, Episode One.

Dallas comes on every Wednesday at 9 EST.

Updated Dallas Theme, 2012--I LOVE that they have the shot of Cowboy's stadium, just like the original did with Texas Stadium, and ended on that zooming shot of Southfork! Awesome! (THANK YOU, TNT, for keeping to the original theme...Dallas just wouldn't be Dallas without it).

  1. I liked Dallas for several seasons, but then tired of it as it dragged on. I don't think I'm ready to re-visit it. But I hope you enjoy it tremendously.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Aww, well I can tell you this one is fresh and new, but with a great bit of nostalgia...you might just like it. ;)

I have to tell you, when that theme started, I got a little teary-eyed. *blushes*

  2. I too am so excited for this return! I watched every episode with my dad growing up (then watched repeats of seasons I was too little to remember). Neither one of us have cable TV right now, and we spent a good 45 minutes on the phone griping about not being able to watch this week!!! *GAH!* I am so jealous, but I am happy you posted this! :)

I really hope they release it on DVD eventually!

    1. Oh, same here! The episodes I was too little to remember, I caught later on. They used to show reruns on CMT, I think, and I never missed one. lol

I hope they bring Afton back, and I've read about Cliff returning. I'm so glad they brought back the legends.

Oh no! I have no doubt they will be on DVD soon. It was such a hit last night, I can't imagine they won't follow the season with a DVD release. I read where it was even trending on twitter!

  4. "Oil is my birthright" -JR Ewing
That was one of my favorite lines from last night! I absolutely loved it!!! I used to watch the original series, RELIGIOUSLY! I actually thought about you last night when they panned the city skyline. I was wondering if you were watching it! ha!

    1. I LOVED how they kept those classic one-liners that make you "whoo-hoo" right out loud! lol J.R. hasn't lost his tough--love him. And his son is perfecting cast!

How about that scene on the center star in Cowboys Stadium? LOVED IT!

Oh, yeah, I was right there, ready and watching, along with my mom and dad! lol So much fun!

  5. Ah, it's so good to see Larry Hagman back on TV after the all he's been through. But where is Charlene Tilton? Dallas wouldn't be the same without the poisoned dwarf.

    1. It really is--and he fell right back into the role of J.R. Ewing like he had never left. Loved it!

Lucy made a cameo at Christopher's wedding. I imagine we'll see her from time to time. :)

  6. Oh Frisky, I am not a fan of the show Dallas. Never was! I don't know why--I think I liked Dynasty better. I haven't turned my TV on for 3 days--this is a record for me. I am buried in books.

    1. Oh, I remember Dynasty--loved that one, too, and Knot's Landing. :)

Dallas is just so much fun--it has so many memories for me with my mom, and, well, let's face it, I do love J.R. :)

  7. I agree with you on the first episode, but John Ross is going to have to grow out of "angry young man" into "humorous, backstabbing asshole-with -a-smile" like dad if its going to last. The fact that JR could do what he did and laugh about it is the glue that held the old show together.

    1. Oh, COMPLETELY agree on John Ross and J.R. I'm thinking he is still growing, finding his footing. It makes sense for him to start out kind of angry, considering he lives in the shadow of his father. Perhaps that will be part of our journey--watching him develop into his father. Clearly, he's not there yet, but he has the potential.

I love J.R., always have--for me, he's one of the most iconic characters ever created.

  8. I never got into Dalls, but my sister is a big fan. She watched it the other night and thought it was really good! I was watching the game between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder!

    1. It was so much fun going back to Southfork and having J.R. be just the same as he always was. I'm so hoping the Thunder take this thing.
