Truth Is Thursday: Soda Strong

Truth Is: I didn’t write this in my post about Dale’s win on Sunday, but did y’all notice he not only won on Father’s Day, but he did it in a mostly black and white car (the colors of his dad’s iconic car)? Goosebumps.

Truth Is: Soda update! I’m still in the Soda Free Zone, and I’ve FINALLY shaken the headaches! Yay! For a while, I didn’t think they would ever go away.

Truth Is: All my exes live in Texas. It’s a song…by George Strait…it’s in my head…can’t shake it. Think it’s because of that cute commercial where the couple drives across a bunch of different states.

Truth Is: Dallas quotes of the week come from the one and only, J.R. Ewing.

“My friends are in the Statehouse. My enemies are gonna be harder to find.”

Truth Is: And let’s not forget this one…

“Bullets don’t seem to have much of an effect on me, darlin’”

For those who didn’t watch Dallas back in the day, J.R. was referencing the wildly successful, “Who Shot J.R.?” episode.

Mavs, Dale Jr., Operation Southern Comfort, and Evil-Be-Gone

Mavericks: After all the devastation suffered by the deep south late last week, I felt far too guilty to celebrate with a Whoo-Hoo post after my Mavs defeated Portland to move into the next round of the playoffs. I'm so darn proud of them, though!

Now, we have to face the Lakers.  Tonight.  Yeah.  C'mon Mavs, y'all can do this!!! I KNOW it! Grrrrr!

Oh, and Mr. Lakers Guy, David, who was cheering the Mavs, but will now be booing them...bring it! ;)

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Richmond didn't produce the results we wanted, but that's life, right? After running in the top ten, and even up to second late in the race, Dale was forced to pit for fuel, which left him with a nineteenth place finish. Bit frustrating. BUT, he's 4th in points and, apart from fuel strategy, he had a strong night, in my opinion. For those getting all riled up: he's doing just fine, folks. Relax.

Operation Southern Comfort: If you have extra clothing or can pick up a few things at your local store (especially t-shirts in XL, 2X, and 3X), socks, flip flops, or the like--pack 'em up and ship them on down south. Check your local churches, grocery stores, businesses, Red Cross, and Salvation Army for drop off locations.

Evil-Be-Gone: Much love to our brave men and women for ridding the world of a supreme evil. If you see a man or woman in uniform, for heaven's sake, shake their hand and thank them for all they do to keep our country safe and free. God Bless America and God Bless Our Troops!

Perspective: Helping, Not Hurting.

While one side of the pond celebrates a royal wedding between a prince and his Cinderella, the other side faces catastrophic loss after what many are calling the worst tornado outbreak in nearly forty years. 

While so many of us watched t.v., talked with friends, cheered for our teams, or just thought about life....people in the deep south were losing their homes, their loved ones, their livelihoods, and even their lives. Nearly 300 innocent people have lost their lives, and that number is expected to rise.

This morning, all I could think about was helping those who have lost everything. In times of tragedy, you always hope to see the very best in people.

While every headline, whether on the television or online, focused on the devastation across the south, someone decided--after so much human tragedy--that this morning was a critical time to send me a rather pointed message about how I (and others like me) am wasting my time waiting for the right man...that I should, in essence, chalk my life up to this point as a massive mistake and give up.

My response? Delete. I don't need to defend who I am or what I stand for, not anymore.  Comments like these, I assume, are meant to tear people down, yet, for me, they only make me that much stronger. It's a sad day when an individual makes it a priority to down someone they don't even know for their beliefs, rather than taking that time and energy and using it to aid fellow human beings who are suffering.  Shame. 

For every individual such as the above message-sender, there are far more who are ready and willing to provide hope.

Please, let's all send prayers, hope, and love to the victims of these horrific acts of nature.

Today, my beloved state has had to face some of nature's most deadly phenomenons: severe flooding and tornadoes. 

As I type, multiple tornadoes are touching down all around Dallas.

Dear God, please protect everyone.
