Truth Is Thursday On Friday: People Shock Me.

Truth Is: Sleepy now...yet not. My eyes must have invisible toothpicks holding them up, while my brain must have found another gear.

Truth Is: The Sandman is clearly playing favorites these days.  I'm not one of them.

Truth Is:  Couples only parties should be against the law--discrimination against singles or something.

Truth Is: My Mavs won last night.  Very glad about this, since they've lost some serious heart-breakers lately...like at the buzzer. Still, the more games they play, the more formidable they will become.

Truth Is: Dirk Nowitzki became only the 23rd player in NBA history to reach 23,000 career points. I think most people would agree he's one of the best to ever play the game.  Yet, he is likely not going to get his first start in the upcoming All Star Game.  He's currently 3rd behind Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant.  It's a shame because if anyone deserves to start an All Star Game, it's an all star player like Dirk Nowitzki.

Truth Is: Okay, on behalf of a friend of mine: People, if you don't work hard, you can't expect to have things handed to you simply because you think you deserve it.  There are no shortcuts.  It's called earning it.

Truth Is:  I'm disgusted.  Truly, deeply disgusted.  I get being a fan. I get celebrating a win.  I get friendly competitive conversation--operative word being friendly.  What I don't get is how one fan can treat another fan so appallingly.

After the LSU-Bama Championship game, a 32-year old Bama fan performed lewd acts upon an unconscious LSU fan.  If you really want to know the details, simply visit ESPN or google it, but be prepared for a stomach-turning story.  Oh, and apparently someone caught it all on video, which went viral following the game.  I haven't watched it and will never watch it.  The man has since been arrested.

There is so much I'd like to say to this guy (sooooo much), but I think I'll just leave it at this: Mike's waiting for you--good luck with that. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!

  1. I agree - Couples Only parties suck. Well, at least they do when you have "coupled" friends who never stop talking about said party that you couldn't attend because you're not a "couple".

As for those who don't want to work for it, I completely agree. I have a younger cousin who, during her 4 years in college, didn't have a part-time job because as she told me, "it's not like I *need* a job." So, when you're done with grad school, who will hire a 20-something with absolutely no job experience? Babysitting when you were 16 doesn't belong on a resume.

    1. Exactly. Frankly, it's not cool to talk on and on about a couples only party with people who are not part of a couple.

I think there's a sense of entitlement with some younger people these days. Graduating school and entering the real world will be a shock.

  2. I've never understood fandom to that point. And you're right, we appreciate things so much more and have less chance of becoming a douche if we earn what we get. That's why spoiled celebrities are as crazy as they are.

    1. It gives the term "fan" a bad name.

Well said--I can't imagine going through life the way some celebrities do.

  3. Individuals who want all the rewards without the effort seriously peeve me off. Perhaps more than some as I've known nothing but hard work most of my life (growing up on a farm might have something to do with that). Recently I went off on one of my co-workers about this: he was complaining about not having a big enough paycheck and that he 'needed a raise', yet he always cuts corners and is the first to ask/volunteer to leave early as well as not being a team player.

Never heard of a couples only party before. And it certainly doesn't sound fair to those who are single!

    1. Ugh, the old "I need a raise" bit when the person doesn't deserve it. SO annoying.

Couples only parties are like hell's waiting room to singles. lol

  4. I hate it when I go to dinner at someone's house and I'm the only single person. I'm also the only fat, ugly person. Not that there's a correlation between the two. That's just the way it is for me, and it makes me want to stay at home all the time. I won't Google that video, and I hope I don't come across it by accident because that sounds absolutely hideous. I am grateful the man has been arrested and I hope a judge sees this as a heinous crime and not a joke.

    1. Being the only single in a room full of couples makes for a long, long evening. :/ I'm hoping the man now recognizes the severity of his actions...if he doesn't, I'm sure the justice system will help him learn.

  5. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I also suffer from insomnia at times, particularly when I'm anxious and lonely, which is 24/7. I'm amazed I ever sleep. And while I agree that people shouldn't get what they don't deserve, what about people who are deserving who don't get? You'll seldom find someone harder working or more capable of handling a variety of jobs than moi, yet I remain unemployed. It contributes to the insomnia. Do all the undeserving people have jobs I should get? Of course, a big part of my problem is that I'm not supposed to pick up anything, bend over, twist, push or pull anything . . . blah blah blah

    1. Good point. There are so many good people who never seem to catch a break. :( I believe good things are coming for you, though. :)

  7. Couples parties are horrid unless they invite a handsome pre-screened single man for you to chat up! ;)
Insomnia is sucky and I know it all too well. I hope you were able to catch some Zzz's, sweetie.

    1. A handsome pre-screened single man would be nice, but it rarely happens. :/

I'm still trying to catch those Zzz's, but I'm determined! lol

  8. Ewwww, I hadn't heard about that! I'm slightly curious about reading the article... but I might just avoid it. People can be absolutely despicable.

  9. Couple's parties? is that a code name for "swapping"?
I'm not going to watch the video but I think the person taking the video needs a smack from his mom! Idiot!

    1. lol-No, just smug couples throwing parties to celebrate their non-singledom.

Good point. I'm not sure about the details surrounding the person who took the video, but, yeah, I guess they uploaded it to you tube and it went viral. :/ The only plus side is the video helped the victim and police.

  10. I was invited to a party a few weeks ago, only to find out upon arriving, that it was a dinner party full of couples. I was the only solo person there. Why would they do that??? Ugh!!! I feel ya hon.

    1. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Yeah, I don't really know why couples invite singles--if they were trying to set their single friends up with someone, that would be a nice gesture, but when that's not the case, it makes you wonder. :/ Ugh.
