Truth Is Thursday--Skin, Single, and Harry Potter

Truth Is: Could someone please tell my skin that you can't decide to be dry and yet still have the nerve to require blot powder by late afternoon?

Truth Is: It seems like everyone is getting married or having babies. A fellow 30-something singleton said everyone around her is getting engaged, married, or pregnant except for her.  I might shouldn't have replied with, "Soon we'll be the only singles in the world."  I meant it as a joke.  By her reaction, I'm not thinking she got the joke part.

Truth Is: I have to concur with fellow singleton--everyone is getting married and/or pregnant, including one of the most vile excuses for a human being I have ever known, and I don't say that lightly. Seriously, how do women like that get a man to fall in love with them? Because when I say vile, I mean VILE.

Truth Is: I really need to start dating again.  I've been kind-of hibernating this winter.  I blame sports (I mean, really, am I supposed to give up a Saturday night LSU game for a date that has a 50/50 chance of being good? Not on your life.  See, I'm so loyal!). Truth is, I really just don't like dating.  From what I hear, most people don't care for it.  It's just that nine times out of ten, dates are more like bad dreams disguised as hope.

Truth Is:  Really, really sad that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II did not get nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, particularly since they could have included another film on the list.  The Harry Potter series has made history; what the series achieved is truly phenomenal, so maybe it doesn't really need an award (but I sure wanted to see them get nominated for the big one--of course, I'm a fan, so...lol).

Still, I do think it's kind-of a travesty that Alan Rickman did not receive a supporting actor nod for his role as Severus Snape.  He. Brought. Snape. To. Life.  No one could have been Snape, no one.  And his final stand as Snape was exquisite, true perfection (cried my eyes out).  Granted, I have always loved Alan Rickman, but this is one omission I just don't understand.

Deathly Hallows, Part II was nominated for Art Direction, Makeup, and Visual Effects. I hope, hope, hope they walk away with one of these.  It would be the perfect way to close a truly spectacular series.

  1. Maybe you need a date with Alan Rickman to get you in the mood. Do you like men with big noses?

  2. Right now I have a picture of Snape in my head... enunciating the number "forty one". Did he say that in the movie? I don't know why I keep getting this image! Did he say something like "page 41"??? Page 141?

    1. "Turn to page three-hundred and ninety four." Prisoner of Azkaban. One of my favorite lines--just the way he delivers it. lol Actually, I have a hilarious Mom story involving that scene--might have to share that one. lol

  4. Just please don't tell me Twilight was nominated for Best Picture. Because I may have to throw fruit at the committee if that happened.

No offense to Twilight fans, but Harry Potter rocks. lol

Also, I agree that everyone us single folk is getting married having babies. And what's worse, is the people who you can't figure out HOW they are doing it before you. That's the salt in the open wound.

    1. No! LOL Thankfully, they did not. lol I mean, I enjoy the Twilight films, but, you're right, they pale in comparison to Harry Potter.

YES! Oh, I so agree!!! Totally salt in the wound!

  5. Would speed dating be an option as the date is only a few minutes so you'd still be home in time for the game?

    1. Oooh, there's an idea! LOL And maybe I'd find a fellow sports fanatic who would want to catch the game as well. lol

  7. It has been ridiculous how all of my friends are in serious relationships, married, having kids, engaged, pregnant. Ugh. I am thrilled for them but it's getting old. It's our age...it's that time in life where that stuff starts happening...for some. Ugh. Oh well.

I am sad to see it didn't get any nods BUT I think that a lot of people are over the series (critics wise) and I kinda understand that. Not everyone is a super fan like we are.

    1. Probably true. It's annoying, though. lol I know when the time is right, it will be right. You can't hurry love, right? lol

And I bet at least half the critics didn't actually read the books, thus they miss that deeper level of appreciation. BFF never read the books, but he enjoyed the series (although he would never admit it to anyone). Well, he is nowhere near as connected as we are, and I think a lot of it is due to him not reading the books.

Still, super fan or not, the mark the series made in film should really be rewarded, and I hope it's in the form of an Oscar for one of those categories.

I was also surprised it didn't get a nod for Adapted Screenplay. :(

    1. I absolutely agree with you. You certainly become more grounded when you reach your 30s, and there's a kind-of vision or understanding you attain that simply did not exist in your 20s. It's pretty amazing. My mom always told me as much, but I could never conceptualize it until I entered my 30s.

Thank you for visiting my blog--I'll be sure to stop by your blog as well! :)

  9. Alan Rickman...

I don't know what to say about him except that he's awesome. And a lovable Snape, which the character in the book wasn't. (I'm sorry, but I hated Snape until Alan Rickman stepped into his shoes.)

    1. He really is; he made the character bigger, if that makes any sense. Just love him!

  10. Alan Rickman was the perfect Snape. But then again I think they got the casting for all the characters pretty good! Like, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the main trio or Sirius or Bellatrix lol!

    1. The casting really was perfect for HP. Oh, I know--Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter were completely amazing.

  11. Here's the crap for when you get 'older': not only did people already get married and have kids while you remained single, but now they've divorced the first spouse and are getting married again! All while I have never been married at all. A cruel, cruel world.

  12. Yes, I wish Harry had been nominated. As for your skin, are you talking about needing blotting powder on your face? If so, I used to have the same problem and then I started using Mary Kay. I wash with a cream cleanser, moisturize, use foundation, and occasionally some powder during the summer, and I have no problems the rest of the day. I'm single and will be for the rest of my life. I'll never marry again. It really only bothers me when I go to parties and all the other people are couples or when I go to bed at night and cry myself to sleep.

    Love,

    1. Yes, face. It's like it can't make up its mind whether to be dry or oily and it's ticking me off. I think a cream cleanser is exactly what I need--I'm pretty sure my regular cleanser is drying my skin too much. And I do need a stronger moisturizer. Ugh.

Awwww, please don't cry yourself to sleep. :( Just think, you wouldn't want to be alone in an unhappy relationship--that's when being single isn't so bad.

      *Hugs*

  13. I, too, love Alan Rickman. Although he scares me.

And I have to ask. When you go on dates and such… where do you find the men? Do people match you up? Are they blind dates? Internet?? I'm assuming not internet. I'm just profoundly curious.

    1. LOL--He can be a little scary.

I've been on a couple of blind dates, mostly as a favor to a friend, but I would say the majority of dates have originated from being matched up by others or the occasional meet-cute. But, honestly, it's really difficult to meet nice guys these days, and the ones you do meet in my age group are either married or engaged, or so it seems. I haven't tried online dating--it kind-of scares me.

  14. It seems like the vilest people always find a way to make guys fall in love with them. I know girls my age like that. It's so gross.

And Harry Potter HAS to win the visual effects award. Right? I mean, the visual effects were pretty outstanding.

    1. Isn't it bizarre? It's perplexing how the guys can't see through it.

Oh, absolutely! If Harry Potter doesn't get at least one Oscar, I'll be stunned.

  15. I'm not having babies.

I already have more boys than I can handle. :)

And as I sit here, attempting to get one minute of solitude, I am reminded that there are blessings in being Single as well. :)

Dating. eeeh. At least the free meal will be good.

You're right--there are benefits being single, even if they're hard to see sometimes. :)

LOL--the free meal is a bonus. lol

  16. yes! re Alan Rickman. The casting agent deserves a medal for that one.
vile women? and the vile men that normal women seem to fall for over and over...what's with that!?!
I'm in my early 40's and everybody around ME is either disgustingly happy and married...or falling to bits...or recoupling. there's no winning:)
