Dear New Year, I Don't Like You.

Here's why:

1. I have to constantly remind myself to write "2011" on checks, notes, letters, etc. Inevitably, I'll forget on something random and embarrass myself.

2. Your presence reminds me that I can no longer live as I have the past two weeks. No cookies at midnight. No laying on my bum, free from cramped muscles and sweaty pits due to excessive toning exercises. And, most importantly, no soda. Harsh, New Year, really harsh.

3. You impose guilt and feign hope. I mean, what are you? The ghosts of New Year's past, present, and future all rolled into one cruel witch?

4. What exactly is "new" about you, other than the last digit? I suppose new things can happen...dreams, wishes, love, blah, blah, blah. Maybe there are "tiny" tweaks that technically qualify as "new." It just seems like one year rolls into the other where nothing ever truly changes, at least not for the better...it's just more of the same crappity-crap packaged in fancy new gift wrap. 

And, dear blogging friends, you should totally ignore all of the negativity, for it comes from the mind of a single with serious soda withdrawal.

I. Want. My. Caffeine...that sugary, high fructose, fat-cells-in-a-can goodness.

Water is such an overrated goody-goody.

  1. Giving up soda was not easy for me. It has been about 7 mos for me now since I last had a diet coke. But the pounds rolled off, imagine that.

  2. My man has been pop-free for two years. He went from drinking probably 6 cans of coke a day to nothing. Cold turkey. He drinks tons of water and iced tea now. He says he can concentrate better, and he's a hunter, and he said his aim is much more accurate without the caffeine shakes from the pop!

    I am a coffee drinker, not much of a pop drinker, but I can feel your pain!

  3. Boo. I'm sorry that you're having a rough time. Maybe you should take up belly dancing. It's fun, I promise! That's how I lost 40 pounds last year, you know. Good luck in the new year! =]

  4. I am laughing so hard right now. Have I told you recently that I love you!? hahaha.

    I rarely drink soda. Occasionally canada dry when sick and coke when I have a migraine and man does that coke make me jumpy! Giving it up totally would be pretty difficult but I'm lucky to not be one of those people addicted to it.

    Water gets old fast. At least you can have SOMETHING... good luck.

  7. I'm so addicted to my soda. I've tried giving it up. I'm such a failure at it. I'd save so much money if I didn't drink it as often as I do. But that's why we recycle . . . right? lol

  8. I'm a coca-cola addict. Serious! Since I decided to stop drinking alcohol for three months, the mere thought of not drinking a coke is scary enough to curl up in the fetal position and rock myself back and forth! lol Sorry you're going through withdrawals! Hope it gets better! :)

  9. I'm with Yvonne. I'm totally addicted to my morning 12 ounces of Coke.

    But I did quit in high school because our soccer team wasn't supposed to drink sodas (like the coaches would take them and throw them away straight from the machines) and I wanted so badly to get off the bench that I respected the rule, even at home (but it still didn't get me off the bench). Anyway, the GOOD NEWS is that after the initial withdrawals, you stop craving sweet stuff, and you actually want water. Even though it does seem like an overrated goody-goody right now. I'm impressed!

  10. Oh, and once you learn to love the metaphorical goody-goody, you feel awesome about your self-control, and you get to be really proud of yourself because you did a great thing! And you feel physically better. Almost enough to make me want to quit again. But not quite.

  11. No no no don't do it. Crystal Light...SOOO BAD FOR YOU! In fact, scientifically proven to cause cancer! NOOOOO! Good for you! No Soda! I'm not sure how long you plan on not drinking it, or if you're off it for good and plan on having one every now and again (which is really quite lovely actually) but yay you!! the negativity won't stick. I already know that. So if you need to go through some detox...you go right ahead!
